Senior Robotics Safety Engineer

Summary

As a Senior Robotics Safety Engineer, you will serve as the subject matter expert by leading technical aspects and providing team leadership for safety engineering projects within the robotics industry. Responsibilities encompass conducting safety analysis, offering technical consulting, generating reports, and supporting safety programs for robotics systems and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Manage safety programs for robotics projects, including project definition, management, budget compliance, schedule adherence, and project reporting. Supervise and manage team members.

  • Lead safety engineering activities in the robotics sector by setting direction for complex projects, developing schedules, and coordinating all phases of work.

  • Develop safety requirements and safety plans, perform system safety and hazard analysis, and report on findings.

  • Review and interpret robotics safety regulations and standards. Monitor client safety performance, conduct safety inspections, and assist in regulatory compliance.

  • Train clients on robotics safety program development, performance, documentation, and regulatory acceptance.

  • Solve complex safety issues related to robotics systems, including both hardware and software safety.

  • Manage, train, and mentor Junior Safety Engineers.

  • Embody the company values.

  • Support business growth by engaging new clients through outreach, networking, publishing papers, and presenting at industry conferences.

Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of experience as a Safety Engineer, with a focus on robotics systems.

  • Experience leading a safety program from inception through execution.

  • Expertise in technical safety analysis including hazard analyses, risk assessments, FTAs, and RBDs.

  • Thorough understanding of the safety lifecycle in robotics and automation contexts.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations including IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ISO 13482.

  • Experience with both software and hardware safety in robotics systems.

  • Superior communication abilities, capable of articulating complex technical data in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in technical documentation.

Certifications

Preferred

  • Functional Safety Expert certificate or equivalent.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Work Environment

The Senior Robotics Safety Engineer position is fully remote, with occasional required travel to client facilities and robotics sites. Work will primarily be conducted from a home office.
